Jun 26, 2019 – VolgaHydro, joint venture between Russia’s RusHydro and Austria’s Voith Hydro, launched a 2.5 billion ruble hydroturbine facility (USD39,8 million) in Balakovo in Russia’s Saratov region. The new facility will produce and assemble components for hydropower plant turbines.
The first major contract includes production of components for eight Kaplan turbines for the local Saratovskaya hydropower plant. With a diameter of 10.3 m each, and a weight of 314 metric tons, the turbines are the largest of the kind in Russia.
The plant will also manufacture components of hydroturbines for other facilities in Russia and the CIS.
