Uber acquires self-driving trucks developer Otto

Uber bought autonomous truck developer OttoAug 18, 2016 — Network transport company Uber said on its web site that it joined up with Otto, a start-up, making efforts to develop a self-driving truck. The transaction is estimated at USD300 mn.

Otto was established in early 2016 by Anthony Levandowski and Lior Ron, both of them had had high-ranked positions at Google. The young tech company has already been testing four real-life autonomous trucks on the US roads.

Following the merger, Mr Levandowski will become the senior director of Uber‘s self-driving car project. The company is planning to launch additional R&D bases in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Pittsburgh.
